No.
I just… no.
I have SUCH a problem with this on so many levels. The first, and biggest, of them being that this show is not written to support your ships. Yes, I ship John and Sherlock. Yes, I understand half the fucking fandom also ships them. But I absolutely do not want this show to turn into nothing more than a load of fan-pandering wank. Granted, I know that it never would… but the fact that there are people out there who actually want that or think that it should happen really bothers me. Sherlock Holmes is great literature. There have been hundreds upon hundreds of adaptions of it through different forms of media, which is what keeps it fresh and new… but they always stick to the same core concepts. That’s what makes it so great. It can be refreshed and become new again, but it’s still always Sherlock Holmes. You want a show where John Watson and Sherlock Holmes are deeply, madly, truly in love with each other and don’t have eyes for anybody else because they’re just too fucking preoccupied with boning each other? Then what you want isn’t Sherlock Holmes. You make the show into that, and you’re making the story into something it absolutely is not. Ship it all you want, but stop expecting it in the show.
The other things that really bothers me, is the lack of respect some members of the fandom often show Moffat and Gatiss. I’m sorry, but there is no reason you should be telling them how to write their show. It is their show. Don’t tell them how to write it just so you can sit back and lust over gay men. Don’t tell them not to do something that is so very canon (John’s marriage to Mary) just because you want your fucking ship to stay in tact.
Honestly, I see stuff like this and I just get so upset. And even worse, I see stuff like this actually being tweeted to Moffat and Gatiss and I am goddamn embarrassed on behalf of the fandom. Because you know what? You see some of the things people involved with the show say in interviews and you realize that this is the kind of stuff they have come to expect from the fandom. That’s embarrassing. It honestly is. And it makes me a bit sad for them. Here they’re churning out this QUALITY work, and yet a very large chunk of the fandom that they see seems to only be concerned with the status of John and Sherlock’s relationship.
If there is one thing I could just rid this fandom of, it’s stuff like this. It’s the way people are just kind of objectifying homosexuality, and then turning around and rubbing it in the cast and crew’s face. The way people are trying to tell these people how they should make their show, just because they want to see two dudes going at it. Honestly. If Irene had been a male character, everybody would be happily shipping the fuck out of her with everybody. If Mary were a man everybody would want her in the show. We need to stop with the fucking misogyny. We need to stop taking our shipping too far. We need to stop harassing the writers. We need to stop shoving the fandom in their faces.
We need to just stop.
I know everybody in this fandom loves and appreciates this show for things other than the shipping, so why don’t we try acting like it? Instead of tweeting Moffat and Gatiss and telling them to do something to protect your ship, instead tweet them and tell them about a certain aspect of an episode you liked. Tell them about a line that you thought was brilliant. Show them that you actually appreciate the show, and realize the type of effort they put into it. Instead of sending them threats or telling them to fuck off because of the emotions they’re making you feel, tell them that Reichenbach was beautifully heart-wrenching. Honestly. There’s a level of respect that needs to be there, that I feel is far too often absent right now.
Sorry for the rant. It is 5 AM and I have a lot of feelings about this.
^this. While I don’t consider myself a fan of Sherlock so much as an admirer, I’m not really in the fandom, but there’s so much sense in this post! Get over yourself fanatics. See the bigger picture.

AMEN. The person who wrote this is a moron anyway, did they miss the part where Irene Adler was beheaded? -.-
ALLL OF THE APPLAUSE FOR cleverdetectiveinafunnyhat
well said, and thank you. everyone who supports the fandom should see this!
Don’t get me wrong. I like Irene. But not with Sherlock. A little like the same way I absolutely hate, hate, hate River...
‘And my god, I want Amanda Abbington to be Mary so bad. She would be perfect.’ That would make my LIFE. Oh god yes...
Thissss. I was literally just thinking about this. As much as I ship Johnlock (and oh boy, I ship it hard), I have no...

I’m not super into Sherlock but these are pretty much my exact views on fandom in general.
